Through the haze of battle, you see the King release a flame tipped arrow straight up into the air as a signal for Loghain and his soldiers to advance. The arrow flies high and true, and Cailan drops his bow to the ground and draws his sword to join Duncan. Looking up to the northeast, the beacon at the top of the Tower of Ishal bursts into flame, visible from anywhere in the area. Now you have only to hold the field until Loghain and his men show up.

Though your group has limited battle training, the number of darkspawn seem limitless. Your ally soldiers are few in number from what you can see. With no sign of the second wave that was supposed to support you, your fellow Grey Wardens slaughtered, and your King defeated, you have two options: fight or flee. (If the group is dumb as fuck, send in a second wave of 10 genlock with 2 hurlocks. Kindly let them flee at any point.)
A Perception or Survival of 10 or higher will note the thick trees that lead east and north around the Ostagar ruins, away from the Korcari Wilds, and away from the battlefield.
The woods here are thick and overgrown, but darkspawn-free, thankfully. Following the outskirts of the ruins, you find a dirt path. Following the path will lead to a fork in the road... Eventually, both paths will lead back together, but if the group chooses to take the right path, they will see fresh human footprints. They've come from the forest and continue along the path as far as you can see. A Perception or Survival of 12 or higher leads you to believe the person was not injured, but as if someone else decided to flee from the battlefield. Continuing down the path, the fork will meet back up, and at the fork is a familiar face: Flemeth. There is no sign of Morrigan.

What are you doing here-esque? "I wonder that myself... Perhaps I turned into a giant bird and flew here."
"We are safe here, for the moment. The horde will move on, and they will move north. So you might avoid it."
"Do not talk about me as if I am not present, lad/lass."
"We cannot have all the Grey Wardens dying at once, can we? Someone has to deal with these darkspawn. It has always been the Grey Warden's duty to unite the lands against the Blight. Or did that change when I wasn't looking?"
!! "The man, who was supposed to respond to the beacon, quit the field. The darkspawn will win this battle. Any soldiers left on the field will be massacred. The only other survivors are a few stragglers that managed to escape. They are long gone by now."
"I am sorry for your Duncan, but your grief must come later... in the dark shadows before you take vengeance, as my mother once said. Duty must come now."
"Why would Loghain do it? Now that is a good question. Men's hearts hold shadows darker than any tainted creature. Perhaps he believes the Blight is an army that he can out maneuver. Perhaps he does not see that the evil behind it is the true threat." (Alistair mumbles about the archdemon)
"What is the Archdemon? It is said that long ago, the Maker sent the Old Gods of the ancient Tevinter Imperium to slumber in a prison deep beneath the surface. An archdemon is an Old God awakened and tainted by darkspawn. Believe it or not, history says it is a fearsome and immortal thing, and only fools ignore history."
"How will you get past the darkspawn? Can you not sense them? They can certainly sense you." "They come from underground, like an eruption. They broke through deep within the forest, and that is where they shall be most concentrated. For now."
"It has always been the Grey Warden's duty to unite the lands against the Blight. Or did that change when I wasn't looking?"
"If you think small numbers make you helpless, you are already defeated."
[Alistair: "We can sneak past small groups. But larger groups of darkspawn- more particularly, intelligent groups- will always catch us."]

Alistair: "What could Loghain gain from betraying the King? The throne? He is the queen's father. But I still can't see how he'll get away with murder."
Flemeth: "You speak as if he would be the first King to gain his throne that way. Grow up, boy."
Alistair: "Whatever Loghain's insanity, he obviously thinks the darkspawn are a minor threat. We must warn Ferelden that this isn't the case."
Flemeth: "And who will believe you? Unless you think to convince this Loghain of his mistakes?" "You could wait for the Archdemon to make its appearance. I imagine that might be convincing."
Alistair: "It's been centuries since the last Blight. Nobody will take it seriously until it's too late." "If Arl Eamon knew what he did, he would never stand for it. The Landsmeet would never stand for it! There would be civil war! Eamon would be the first to call for his execution! ...Arl Eamon wasn't at Ostagar. He still has all his men. He is Cailan's uncle... I know him. He's a good man! Respected at the Landsmeet! Of course! We can go to him and appeal to him for help!"
Flemeth: "Surely there are other allies you can call upon..."
Alistair: "Of course! The treaties! The Grey Wardens can demand aid from dwarves, elves, mages, and other places. They're obligated to help us through the Blight!"
Flemeth: "I may be old, but dwarves, elves, mages, this Arl Eamon, and who knows what else... this sounds like an army to me."
Alistair (to the group): "Can we do this? Travel to Redcliffe and all these other places and build an army?" "It's always been the Grey Warden's duty to stand against a Blight. And right now, we're the Grey Wardens."
Flemeth: "So you are set, then? Ready to be Grey Wardens?" "Thank you, Grey Wardens. None of us will survive if you do not. Even an old witch like me." "Hahaha.. When is it ever easy?" "So long, Wardens. And good luck.
Alistair: "I recommend the town to the north as our first destination. We can recoup and make a game plan from there. That is, if the darkspawn haven't gotten there first."

Alistair can also come out of his shocked silence, asking Flemeth:
"Are you the Flemeth? The Flemeth from the legends? You are a witch, aren't you?"
Flemeth: "What does that mean? I know a bit of magic, yes. And age is relative- it depends on who you're asking. Compared to you, I'm old."
"Will you help us?" Me? I'm just an old woman who lives in the Wilds. I know nothing of Blights and darkspawn.
